Moscow Airports Resume Flights After Drone Attack Temporarily Halts Operations

MOSCOW — Flights at several Moscow airports resumed on Monday after being temporarily suspended in the early hours due to a potential drone attack, authorities confirmed. Nearly 60 drones heading for the Russian capital were shot down, according to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.

The airports of Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Vnukovo, and Zhukovsky had suspended takeoffs and landings to ensure safety amid the attack. The aviation watchdog later confirmed that operations had resumed.

Sobyanin confirmed the city was under continuous drone attack and that emergency response forces were working at the crash sites. He did not provide further details on the total number of drones involved or the extent of damage.

The incident comes just days after drones struck Moscow’s sole oil refinery last week. In that offensive, defense systems shot down nearly 200 drones in one of the largest air attacks on the city since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
