Russia Advises Using Different Passwords to Protect Online Accounts

Dragon Media News Desk

Russia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs has advised citizens to use different passwords for each online service and to rely on a password manager to strengthen account security.

According to ministry materials reviewed by TASS, the hacking of accounts on messaging services, social networks and Russia’s government services platform Gosuslugi has become a common stage in many fraud schemes.

The ministry warned that using the same password across multiple accounts can put other services at risk if the security of one account is compromised.

It therefore recommended creating a separate and strong password for every account and using a reliable password manager to store and organize them securely.

The ministry also advised users to enable two-factor authentication to provide an additional layer of protection.

Under such a system, even if someone obtains a user’s password, access to the account cannot normally be completed without passing an additional verification step.

Russian authorities have also repeatedly urged citizens not to disclose personal information, verification codes or other sensitive account details in order to reduce the risk of online fraud.
