Kyiv’s “Exotic Peace Proposals” Merely Imitate Peacemaking, Says Miroshnik

Kyiv’s various “peace proposals” are not genuine efforts to achieve a settlement but rather attempts to create the appearance of pursuing peace, Russian diplomat Rodion Miroshnik has said.

Speaking to the Russian newspaper Izvestia, Miroshnik argued that the “exotic” peace initiatives being put forward by the Ukrainian side are designed more to portray Kyiv as committed to diplomacy than to produce meaningful progress toward ending the conflict.

According to him, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s priority is not an immediate political settlement but securing additional financial and military resources from Western countries.

Miroshnik claimed that Kyiv remains focused on maintaining external support necessary to continue the conflict rather than moving toward a negotiated resolution.

He also said that European countries have already pledged substantial financial assistance to Ukraine for the continuation of the conflict, arguing that such commitments further reduce the prospects for a genuine peace process.

The Russian side has repeatedly maintained that any lasting settlement of the Ukraine conflict must address what Moscow describes as its underlying causes, and that temporary ceasefires or new political formulas alone would not be sufficient.

Miroshnik’s latest remarks reflect Moscow’s continuing skepticism toward peace initiatives advanced by Kyiv and its European supporters.
