Typhoon Gaenari Makes Landfall in Fujian with Winds of Around 65 km/h

Typhoon Gaenari made landfall in east China’s Fujian Province on Monday, according to the Fujian provincial meteorological observatory.

The storm came ashore at around 12:30 p.m. local time along the coast of Zhangban Township in Quanzhou City.

Gaenari, the 20th typhoon of the year, strengthened from a tropical depression into a tropical storm at around 11 a.m. on Monday.

Maximum sustained winds near the center of the storm reached 18 meters per second, equivalent to around 65 kilometers per hour and Force 8 on China’s wind scale.

After making landfall, Gaenari is expected to continue moving northwestward while gradually weakening.

Meteorological authorities are continuing to monitor the storm’s path and intensity. Coastal areas of Fujian could experience strong winds and rainfall associated with the system, and residents in affected areas have been advised to remain alert.
