RPP’s Bagmati Province Lawmakers Have Not Yet Lost Their Seats, Says Gyanendra Shahi

Rastriya Prajatantra Party spokesperson Gyanendra Shahi has said that the party’s lawmakers in the Bagmati Provincial Assembly have not yet formally lost their seats.

In a social media statement, Shahi said the party had only submitted requests for disciplinary action to the Provincial Assembly Secretariat and that such submissions do not automatically terminate a lawmaker’s membership.

He said it was inappropriate to report that lawmakers had been removed from office unless the relevant authority completed the legal process and issued a formal decision.

The RPP had earlier sent letters to the Bagmati Provincial Assembly seeking action against lawmakers who had acted against the party’s decisions. The Assembly Secretariat is currently examining the legal implications of those requests.

Shahi argued that a political party may take disciplinary action against its members, but simply submitting a letter seeking action does not automatically make a directly elected provincial lawmaker’s seat vacant.

He also criticized the spread of what he described as inaccurate information, including by people within the party, and called for public statements to be based on facts and legal procedure rather than political emotion.

Shahi emphasized that directly elected lawmakers derive their mandate from voters and said their status should not be declared terminated before completion of the required constitutional and legal process.

His remarks came after some reports suggested that RPP lawmakers in Bagmati Province had already been removed from office.
