Prime Minister Balendra Shah will attend Wednesday’s direct question-and-answer session in the House of Representatives wearing dark glasses, after formally informing the Federal Parliament Secretariat that he needs them for medical reasons.

Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal had earlier asked parliament members, through chief whips and whips, not to attend House meetings wearing dark glasses unless medically necessary. Those requiring them for health reasons were asked to provide a medical report explaining the condition.

Prime Minister Shah has submitted such documentation to the Parliament Secretariat. His office forwarded a medical report from Birendra Military Hospital in Chhauni following an eye examination.

Shah underwent the examination on Shrawan 22. The medical assessment, conducted by ophthalmologist Lt. Col. Dr. Sachit Dhakal, noted that the Prime Minister experiences discomfort when exposed to bright light and also requires the periodic use of eye drops.

The Prime Minister’s Office formally notified the Parliament Secretariat of the condition on Shrawan 26, along with the medical report.

Shah is scheduled to appear before the House of Representatives at 1:00 pm on Wednesday to answer questions from parliament members.

With the medical documentation already submitted, the Prime Minister falls under the health-related exception allowing the use of dark glasses during the parliamentary session.
