Raj Kathayat Remanded for Five Days over Alleged Assault on Police

Police have launched an investigation against Raj Kathayat, who was arrested on allegations of misbehaving with and assaulting police personnel on duty in Baneshwor, Kathmandu.

Kathayat, originally from Tatopani Rural Municipality in Jumla, has been remanded for five days by the Kathmandu District Administration Office for further investigation, according to the District Police Range, Kathmandu.

Police said the incident occurred on Monday morning along the road section from Baneshwor toward Thapagaun. Officers on duty had asked Kathayat, who was crossing the road as a pedestrian, to use the overhead pedestrian bridge.

According to police, Kathayat ignored the instruction and allegedly engaged in abusive behavior before physically assaulting the officers, after which he was taken into custody.

Superintendent of Police Dan Bahadur Thapa of the District Police Range, Kathmandu, said police are preparing to proceed against Kathayat on charges of obstructing a public servant from performing official duties and engaging in disorderly conduct.

Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation, police said.
