India Hands Over First Consignment of 70-Metre Bailey Bridge Components to Nepal for Betrawati Connectivity

The first consignment of components for a 70-metre Bailey bridge provided by the Government of India has been handed over to Nepal to help restore road connectivity in the Betrawati area affected by the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli flash floods.

According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs and the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, the first consignment was handed over to the Road Division of the Government of Nepal in Hetauda. The handover took place in the presence of Makawanpur-1 parliament member Prakash Gautam, Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City Mayor Mina Kumari Lama, and representatives from the District Administration, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force.

The Bailey bridge is intended to support the restoration of disrupted road connectivity in the Betrawati area, where the recent flash flood damaged transport infrastructure and affected movement of people and essential supplies.

The 70-metre bridge components are being delivered in phases. The first consignment has now reached Nepal, while additional consignments are expected to arrive in the coming days.

Restoring road links is an important part of the wider recovery process following the disaster. Once installed, the bridge is expected to facilitate transportation, support the movement of essential goods and help local communities gradually return to normal life.

The assistance also reflects continuing Nepal-India cooperation in disaster response and the restoration of critical infrastructure following the recent floods.
