Russia and Trinidad and Tobago Discuss Bilateral Cooperation and International Security

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Trinidad and Tobago’s Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs Sean Sobers held talks in New York on September 23. The meeting, held on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, focused on key global issues, expanding bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest and strengthening coordination in multilateral forums.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the ministers also exchanged views on opportunities to advance cooperation within the United Nations and the Gas Exporting Countries Forum. Both sides emphasized the importance of maintaining dialogue on matters of shared concern and expanding engagement in international organizations.

Following Trinidad and Tobago’s election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2027–2028, Russia expressed its readiness for constructive dialogue on challenges to international peace and security. The Russian side indicated its willingness to cooperate within the Security Council in seeking collective responses to those challenges.

The meeting highlighted the shared interest of Russia and Trinidad and Tobago in expanding dialogue on bilateral relations, energy cooperation, and international peace and security.
