Russian and Iranian Foreign Ministers Meet in New York

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met in New York on September 24 during the high-level week of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.

According to Russia’s Foreign Ministry, the ministers discussed regional and international issues, with a focus on developments concerning Iran. They stressed the need for a diplomatic settlement of the crisis. The Russian ministry attributed the crisis to actions by the United States and Israel.

The ministers also discussed implementing agreements reached by the two countries’ presidents in Bishkek on September 1 and reviewed the schedule of upcoming Russia–Iran contacts at various levels, the ministry said.
