President Putin Meets Malaysia’s Supreme Ruler in Moscow, Agrees to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Moscow. Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with the Supreme Ruler of Malaysia, Sultan Ibrahim, who arrived in Moscow to take part in the celebrations marking the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

During the meeting, President Putin welcomed Sultan Ibrahim to Moscow and recalled that their last meeting had taken place in St Petersburg. He expressed gratitude for taking the time to join Russia in celebrating Victory Day, a day held very dear by the country. “On this day, we remember the sacrifices made by our country, and by all humanity, in the struggle against Nazism,” Putin said.

President Putin noted that relations between the two countries are developing well and that the anniversary of diplomatic relations will be marked next year. Mentioning that trade and economic ties are developing but have seen a certain adjustment with a slight decline in volumes, he expressed confidence that the trend would be overcome in the very near future, with all the prerequisites in place for this.

Putin stated that the two countries actively cooperate on the international stage, in various organisations including the United Nations, ASEAN, and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. He informed that Malaysia chaired ASEAN last year and that, as the organisation marks its 35th anniversary, corresponding joint steps were agreed upon in Kazan. Putin expressed confidence that the close ties maintained at the intergovernmental level will remain the case in the future.
