Trump Claims U.S.–Iran Peace Deal to Be Signed on Sunday

Washington. U.S. President Donald Trump has said that a peace deal with Iran is scheduled to be signed on Sunday and that the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened to all immediately afterward.

In a post on Truth Social on Saturday, Trump claimed that the deal is scheduled to be signed on Sunday and that the Strait of Hormuz would be opened immediately after the signing. He also claimed that Iran no longer wants a nuclear weapon.

According to Trump, the United States will work with Iran at an appropriate time to remove enriched uranium. He said that after the signing of the deal, U.S.–Iran relations would become “different and better.” However, he also warned that the United States has the “ultimate alternative” if the process does not move forward quickly, easily and smoothly.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar also said that an electronic signing ceremony for the U.S.–Iran deal is scheduled for Sunday. Earlier, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had said that the United States and Iran had agreed on a framework for a peace deal and were expected to sign it soon. Pakistan has reportedly been mediating the U.S.–Iran peace negotiations.

However, the Iranian side has denied the claim that a final agreement will be signed on Sunday. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei reportedly rejected reports that a memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States to end the conflict would be signed on Sunday. He cited what he described as “the other side’s hesitation” as the reason for the uncertainty.

According to Baqaei, any possible memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran would serve only as a framework for continuing talks, not as a final agreement. He also said that discussions on the nuclear issue are expected to continue for another 60 days.

The differing signals from the United States, Iran and Pakistan have left the exact nature of the proposed signing ceremony and the actual status of the agreement unclear. The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s nuclear program and the possible process for removing enriched uranium are now expected to remain key issues in the next phase of diplomatic discussions.
