Putin Meets Abu Dhabi Crown Prince on BRICS Sidelines, Reaffirms Strong Russia-UAE Ties

Russian President Vladimir Putin met Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, highlighting the growing strategic partnership between Russia and the United Arab Emirates.

At the opening of the meeting, Putin noted that the two countries are marking 55 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations this year. He said much had changed during that period, both internationally and in bilateral relations, and described the UAE as one of Russia’s closest partners in the region.

Putin said cooperation between Russia and the UAE extends well beyond the economy. Bilateral trade is already substantial and continues to grow, while political coordination and cooperation on security issues have also expanded.

Referring to the difficult situation in the Middle East, Putin said Moscow remains in regular contact with the UAE leadership, including President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He asked the Crown Prince to convey his best wishes to the UAE President and noted that they regularly discuss the most important and urgent regional issues by telephone.

The Russian President expressed confidence that the regional situation would eventually stabilise despite current difficulties. He also said Russia-UAE relations would remain resilient and continue to grow stronger.

Putin stressed that Moscow attaches particular importance to hearing the UAE leadership’s assessment of current developments in the region and its views on how the situation may evolve.

The meeting reflected the broader expansion of Russia-UAE cooperation in recent years, including political dialogue, trade, investment, energy and regional diplomacy, as both countries continue to strengthen bilateral ties amid a rapidly changing international environment.
